Dew Tour Finals

I was fortunate enough to have been hired to shoot the Dew Tour Finals at Mount Snow last weekend. It was fun being right on the park features and half pipe as the sport's top competing athletes soured through the sky above. My friend Ian Reynolds and I provided the written and photographic coverage for Newschoolers.com. Superpipe Finals Coverage

All the athletes came straight from the X-games so were exhausted mentally and physically. They showed a lot of endurance and professionalism because they really took the features that were built for them and did amazing things. A special congratulations to Bobby Brown for winning Slopestyle, Simon Dumont for taking the Pipe Finals, and Jossi Wells for winning the Dew Cup for his overall performance in Superpipe. A special thanks to Bobby Brown for letting me stay in his room, one of the most down to earth, level-headed guys I've met in the industry.

I updated my portfolio website today and added a bunch of new images. A lot of the classics had to stay but I updated the overall design and added some new images. I am excited about the overall feel of the website, my favorite National Geographic photographer Cary Wolinsky recently told me he loved the "energy" in my portfolio. That energy and vibe is what I strive for and why I believe my images have a strong impact.

A few weeks ago I got a new dog!

I found her at a shelter in Rhode Island where she had lived almost her whole life. She is a very sweet St. Huskernard (Half Siberian Husky and half St. Bernard). She is the perfect outdoor photographer's companion; she loves to adventure for miles and miles, she loves to wear her dog backpack and carry stuff, and when we are inside doing computer work she chills just as hard as she plays.

Ski the East Interview

Huge thanks to Ski the East and Pippin Lee for making this interview happen. Just speaking with Pippin and then seeing this interview up online has made me even more excited for the upcoming season. Reflecting on what I've done so far really just confirmed how little that is, and how much more I have ahead of me. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Thanks to everyone that's helped me along the way.

This is the shot that I was attempting to get when my camera was stolen just three weeks ago. I dragged Zack back into Hartford to get this rail again. He got a little beat up, but we left a lot
happier than last time.

I haven't shot skating very much but am very interested in getting more into it. It's always fun to shoot something different and
explore a new industry.

After having my camera gear stolen a few weeks ago, I have finally replaced it all. I actually upgraded to the D700 and am extraordinarily excited about this camera. Here's one of the first shots that I've captured with it. I shot out of the trunk of my Pathfinder while my friend Kyle cruised his Mustang around some windy New England roads.

Poor Boyz Triple Threat World Premiere!

I had a great Summer and can’t believe it’s already September. This September will be my first real experience of “premiere season.” This is the time of year that all the ski films get released and there are events all over the world to screen the movies. In 48 hours I’ll be traveling to Seattle for the Poor Boyz Productions World Premiere of their film “Everyday is a Saturday” and the Nimbus film “Contrast.” There will be a photo art gallery before, then two movie screenings, and a big party after. Should be a lot of fun. Poor Boyz has worked really hard to promote this not only to their fans but to their own athletes, there will be a record number of pros attending this event, all ready to sign autographs and have a great time.

East Coast Super Shoot

This past weekend, I was chosen as a finalist in an event called the East Coast Super Shoot. Five photographers were chosen to go to Stowe Mountain in Vermont and shoot photos for two days. Each photographer picked one rider and one skier to bring along. On Saturday afternoon, each photographer had to make a presentation incorporating their action sports portfolio images with the photos they shot on Friday and Saturday morning. It was an extraordinarily fun weekend. I want to thank my skier Colin Sirois and my rider Jesse Curran for absolutely throwing down, they really made it easy to GTS (get the shot). We captured some great images and I think the final product came out well. I would also like to thank Stowe for the food, hotels, and an overall fantastic event. Also thank you to Orage, Burton and Pocket Wizard for hooking up the athletes and photographers with some sweet prizes.

I had a blast Friday night in Boston. I got the opportunity to visit my friend Rob Losier and watch his band (Su Casa) play their first live performance. For those of you that know Rob, you are probably well aware of how musically gifted he is. When you combine his talent and style with two brilliantly skilled musicians from Berklee you get a pretty solid formula for a band. I feet very fortunate to have been there and to have photographed it because they truly blew everyone away.

Poor Boyz Rail Trip

Professional skier Nick Martini asked me to travel with Poor Boyz Productions and Salomon Freeski TV on a week long urban rail road trip. Writer Mike Rogge will be releasing articles about our trip and I will link you to them as they are posted. I will post some photos after I figure out which ones are being used in publications. Thanks again to Cody Carter from Poor Boyz and Steve Horton from Salomon for giving me this opportunity. Also props to the athletes, Nick Martini, Matt Walker, Alexis Godbout, and Jen Crichton for performing some of the most monumental rail skiing in history. Look for the footage in PBP's next movie; "Every Day is a Saturday" dropping next Fall.

Immortal Technique wants YOU

Photographing Immortal Technique and his crew was not only a blast but also truly inspirational. His lyrics are deeply layered with productive messages demanding people to stand up for what they believe in. Another activist artist by the name of Son of Nun performed. SON performed incredible spoken word and really got everyone going with some exciting new tracks. Thanks to the activist clubs at Uconn that made this event happen, they really work hard everyday for not only the student body but the greater good outside of campus as well.

Zion National Park

Here are some photos from a recent trip to Zion National Park. It was one of the most incredible places I've ever been. Hundreds of Millions of years ago this area was just 3,000 foot sand dunes (the tallest sand dunes today are in the Saraha and max out at about 300 feet). The sea filled over this ancient desert and the calcium carbonate in the water cemented the sand into hard sandstone. As the sea retreated it pulled away loose sediment and the rivers that were left continued to erode vast canyons over time. We did a hike up to a place called Angel's Landing. It's a breathtaking hike that results in incredible 360 degree views of the park. We also hiked The Narrows, a knee deep river with hundred to thousand foot walls on either side. Both hikes were excellent displays of the topographical drama that has developed in Zion over so many years

The Thinnest Point on the Angel's Landing hike. Literally 2000 foot drop on either side. If you look at the upper right part of the photo and see that curved gray line, that's a large river.

Spent a night in Las Vegas. So glad I finally got to see it. I would love to summarize Vegas in a few quick sentences but that wouldn't be possible. You have to go experience it to really what it's like, but these photos aren't a bad start:

HARE KRISHNA!

I attended INDIA FEST last night with some friends. The first temple every built in the United States specifically for the Krishna followers is in Spanish Fork, Utah (about an hour south of Salt Lake) The temple is gorgeous and the event was a lot of fun. Very interesting to experience the Krishna culture, dance, art and most of all eat the incredible vegetarian cuisine. The final ceremony of the night was the burning of a wooden statue of the ancient king Ravana. The festival was fun and everyone from the temple was incredibly welcoming and nice. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself visiting the temple again soon.

WHY SALT LAKE IS SO COOL

A fifteen minute drive can take you from downtown Salt Lake City, onto an epic mountain road like this. We took a late afternoon drive yesterday just to explore in the mountains. We pulled over climbed on top of this big rock and I snapped this particular shot at about 7:00pm

After only having moved into our house in Salt Lake for three days, we decided to take a road trip for a few days of summer skiing at Mt. Hood. The skier featured in the photo movie is my roommate Matthew Pothier.
